"I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness" --Walt Whitman
We are a Catholic School established in 1850, staffed by the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth and a certified lay faculty. Assumption School is the second oldest Catholic School in the Paterson Diocese.
Assumption School's primary concern is to spread the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to all students entrusted to us. These children will be the new messengers of Christ who will continue to bring the Gospel message to those they meet. Assumption School is, in the Catholic tradition, in existence for the development of the holistic child so that each baptized person may have a place as a Christian in the Church as well as in the global community. Our tradition embraces God, family and attaining the realization of our philosophy.
We strive to bring to our students the knowledge that they are individually gifted by God and that it is incumbent upon them to realize these gifts. Through nurturing by the administration, faculty, clergy and family, each child is encouraged to achieve the optimum of his/her potential.
We are aware of the changing world in which our children will journey. In light of this, we continually evaluate our curriculum to meet the demands of the future. In so doing, we endeavor to help our students face the academic challenges which will be placed upon them in their travels

Assumption School is a celebration of message, community and service. Instruction includes Catholic doctrine, faith, prayer, liturgy, scripture, and sacraments. Our school encourages each student to accept the challenge of being a Christian in tomorrow?s world. As a faith community, Assumption School emphasizes those values which encourage students to accept others rather than exclude them, to understand the differences between right and wrong, and to commit themselves to serving God by serving others.
We share with our children a life-giving cycle of mutual giving and receiving. We share a respect, a responsibility, and a moral obligation with the parents in allowing the child to say "I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness" (Whitman).
We encourage parents to read and review this policy with their children.
