SPEAKER SERIES: JESSICA LAHEY – THE GIFT OF FAILURE

Tuesday, April 24th
7:00 pm
Matthew C. Sellitto Gymnasium
Harding Township School

Harding Township School and the Harding Township Educational Foundation are proud to present and evening with New York Times Best-Selling Author, Jessica Lahey, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed. The best-selling author will be on hand to coach parents and students about the positive outcomes of embracing failure.  She will break down research on motivation, resilience and learning, and explain how parenting and teaching, that encourages kids’ autonomy, boosts their motivation and improves education outcomes. Jessica offers practical advice for fostering intrinsic motivation and weaning kids off of extrinsic motivators such as short-term rewards, bribes, honors, coercion, and yes, even grades, while giving kids the support and encouragement they need in order to succeed. All are welcome – invite your friends!  See flyer for additional details.

ENRICHMENT DAY

In keeping with this year’s “circus” theme, we are having a Dollar Dress Down day on Friday 4/20 to raise money for the Red Nose Day campaign.  With the proceeds, the Enrichment Committee will purchase a red nose for each student and hand them out on Enrichment Day, May 11.  The Red Nose Day campaign is dedicated to ending child poverty, both in the US and in some of the poorest communities in the world. The money raised by this campaign in the US has benefited programs for children and young people in all 50 states and in 34 countries internationally.  For more information, visit https://rednoseday.org/faq
