Friday April 5 – Report cards go home
Please note that we are asking all parents to wait outside the building for pick up for after school activities.  The students will be brought to the door and dismissed directly to you.  Children who attend After School will be dismissed from the cafeteria in the back of the building.  If you are requesting homework when your child is absent and will not be picking it up before 3 please let us know and we will give it to After School in the cafeteria where you can get it.
Dismissal – It has come to our attention that cars are blocking the cross walk before dismissal on MacCulloch Avenue.  Please remember to wait in line on Miller Road if you are picking up your children.  Please do not cut in line from MacCulloch Avenue.
Please remember that you can leave items in the vestibule on the shelf for delivery or to pick up homework.

ASSUMPTION SPRING SPORTS 

Registration For Baseball, Softball and Track and Field

Registration is open for Baseball (boys grades 7th and 8th), Softball (girls grades 7th and 8th) and Track and Field (boys and girls 3rd grade through 8th grade).
Please register through our website: https://assumption-school.sportssignup.com/site/.  The link can also be found on the Assumption School website, under the “Athletics” tab. Once you’ve completed the registration process and paid in full, a confirmation receipt will be e-mailed to you immediately.

 

With regard to Track and Field, we need a parent or group of parents to manage and coach the team.  If we are unable to find a manager or if small number of children register, we may not be able to go forward with the Track and Field program.   Please contact Kevin Bopp at kevin_bopp@nylim.com if you are interested in managing, coaching or with any questions.

ANNUAL MOTHER/SON SHINDIG

Mother/Son Shindig for Grades 1st – 4th will be held on Friday, April 5 at 7:00PM. Invitations were sent home this week in your son’s backpack. The cost will be $15 per person for a fun night of promenading and light refreshments! Please send in the bottom part of the invitation with your $15 payment per person by Thursday, March 28th. Grandmas, Aunts or significant Gals are welcome!

ASSUMPTION SCHOOL’S 2ND ANNUAL GOLF OPEN

REGISTER NOW! Assumption School’s 2nd Annual Golf Open will be Monday, May 20, at Morris County Golf Club in Morristown and registration is open! Register as an individual golfer, twosome, or foursome and, if you can’t make it for golf, ALL ARE WELCOME to register for the cocktail reception and raffle! KID CHEF – Scrumptious Sweets
This will be hands on instruction in the Assumption kitchen for students from grades 3 – 8th grade.  Mrs. Sopira and Mrs. Guglielmo will share their culinary skills and recipes with you. This session will Scrumptious Sweets with a focus on chocolate.   Not only will we create delectable treats, we will also end in the class in tasting the fruits of our labor!
Here are the particulars: Classes are from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.
April 3, Wednesday  – Scrumptious Sweets  – Chocolate Cupcakes in an Orange Cup, Chocolate Pretzel Caramel Pinwheels and Toffee Honeycomb
May 1, Wednesday – Cinco de Mayo Munchies – Not Your Typical Taco, Quesadillas, and Savory Sauces.
The cost is $40.00 per class.   Checks should be made out to S. Sopira or S. Guglielmo, or cash.(Checks are non-refundable)

POWER TO THE PARENTS

Join us on April 16, 2019 at 8:30 AM in the all-purpose room to discuss how to have difficult but necessary discussions with your children.  Topics will include: alcohol, drugs, sex, bullying, and vaping.  The discussion will be facilitated by our own Jennifer Farmer, LCSW.

FORENSICS COMPETITION

Congratulations to the 16 students in 6th – 8th grade who competed in the MSMA Forensic Competition on March 27, 2019.  All our girls stood out as champions but the following were specially recognized with a trophy for their efforts in the following categories:
5th and 6th grade Prose and Poetry – 2nd place Colleen Santoriello, 7th and 8th grade Declamation – 5th place Julia Sweeney, 2nd place Sofia Uribe, and 1st place Jessica Jabbour, 5th and 6th grade Declamation – 3rd place Olivia Chang, 2nd place Marissa Tufarro, and 1st place Sadie Smith.Assumption will be hosting a forensic declamation competition on April 10th at 3:00 pm.  If your student is in 5th grade and above and would like to assist by escorting people to their rooms, timing, and/or running papers, please email Jean Jabbour at jeanjabbour@verizon.net.

SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP

SCHOLASTIC “DINO-MITE” BOOK FAIR – March 31 – April 5

IT’S HERE!! 
The Scholastic “Dino-Mite” Book Fair is at Assumption School this week!! We are open Sunday from 9:30am-2pm.

Each grade will have time to shop with their class. PLEASE NOTE THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE TO 5TH & 6TH GRADE SHOPPING TIMES, AS WELL AS THE BOOK FAIR WILL CLOSE AFTER THURSDAY FAMILY SHOPPINGClick here

If you are not shopping with your student, please feel free to set up an Ewallet, http://www.scholastic.com/bf/assumption-nj. It puts a hold on your credit card for a set amount and you only get charged for what is spent, much like when you give a credit card to a hotel.
PLEASE make sure your student knows how much s/he can spend and if they can round up for the All for Books collection!! Also remember you can shop for teachers out of their selected wish lists, located at the cash register station.
Books can also be purchased during the family shopping time Monday -Thursday, 2:45-3:15pm with Tuesday having late hours until 5:30pm. The later start time (2:45pm) will allow for all the car riders to be dismissed. If you are planning to come for the family shopping time with your child, please send a note to your child’s teacher and they will wait for you in the gym.
We need more volunteers for Tuesday 4/2 in the morning, Wednesday 4/3 in the afternoon, and Friday 4/5! Come offer your “Dino-Mite” help to run this fun event!

MIXED BAG FUNDRAISER 

MIXED BAG DESIGNS is back by popular demand for a fundraiser supporting  the 7th grade as they fundraise to offset costs of next year’s graduation.  As with any school fundraiser, there is no pressure to purchase.  Mixed Bag offers super fun products for home and on-the-go, including eco-friendly bags, everyday totes and great organizational items, all at reasonable prices.  Packets go home with youngest child this week. ALTAR SERVER TRAINING

Assumption Church will be conducting Altar Server training sessions for boys and girls in the fourth grade and up on Tuesday, March 12, and Tuesday March 19, from 4-5 p.m.  You need only attend one session.
