September 22, 2019 Weekly Word

Forms for “Permission to Publish Student’s Photograph or Work” were sent home with every student by way of backpack.  Please make sure that you complete the form and return it to your child’s teacher. Flyers from Lors Photography went home this week.  Please note pictures will be taken on October 1 and 2.  Everyone should have received an email from Plusportal our online grading system.  If you did not get one please email  pdechiaro@assumptionnj.org.  This website will allow you access to your child’s grades (grades 4  – 8) and information from their teachers.
Please see the attached letter from Sister Merris regarding donating to the people affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

DISMISSAL
Thank you for all of your patience and understanding while we get back into the swing of dismissal.  Please know that everything we are doing in terms of security and dismissal is in the best interest of the children and staff at Assumption School and the neighbors in our community.   There are a few reminders we would like to make:

Walkers:  If you have your child give the teacher a note that your child is going to be a walker, please make sure your child is completely aware of the exact plan that day.  For example, let your child know that you will be waiting outside the main doors of the school, by the crossing guard, or in your car.  When you write the note that your child is a walker, you are assuming all responsibility for your child’s well being as soon as your child leaves the front door of the school.  Please make sure your child is comfortable with the plan that is set in place for being a walker at dismissal.  If you decide that it would be in your child’s best interest to meet him or her at the door of the school, please wait by glass doors at 2:05 and walk away with your child immediately after she or he comes out of the school, so that the bus riders can be dismissed.

Car riders:  Please make sure you continue to follow all traffic rules while sitting in your car and/or moving forward in the car line.  Do not sit in front of fire hydrants, driveways, stop signs, or crosswalks.   We need to make sure the crossing guard Move forward only when you know that you will be able to pull over to the side of the road in a legal place.  Make certain that your name tag is secured to your visor and in a position that the teachers can read your name tag as you approach the front circle.  If you misplaced your name tag please write your name on a piece of paper or on your computer.

ASSUMPTION SCHOOL DIRECTORY

Thank you for updating your passwords for Retiker and Power School.  We ask that you be patient with us as we work with the administration in the Paterson Diocese to adjust our directory.  If you find that some of your information is incorrect and the system will not allow you to save the edits you make, please opt out of that information for now.  We hope to be sending out an email later this week, letting you know that the problems have been rectified and then at that time, we will ask everyone to go back into the directory and edit their personal information and opt in.
Please remember to check the online bulletin on our school website for important daily announcements and updates.

BASKETBALL REGISTRATION

Athletics at Assumption School has been integral part of our comprehensive school program. It encourages competitive play, while promoting Catholic values, teamwork and sportsmanship. We encourage all students to participate.

As you may know, the Catholic school basketball league that our students play in was forced to disband due to several school closings. The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of the Diocese Paterson is the only league available if we want to continue to offer basketball to our students. However, CYO has been historically offered to members of the Parish and Assumption School students.

Because of these unique issues, the following clarifies our basketball plans for this year:

Both Assumption School students and Non-Assumption School students are eligible and welcomed to play CYO. Assumption School students and non-Assumption School students will be combined on a team. There will be no cuts. Our expectation is that the teams will be mostly Assumption School students. If more than 18 register to play, the team may be split based on criteria other than talent. Practices will be held at the convenience of the coach. Accordingly, if a coach wants to practice after school, the non-Assumption School children will be made aware.Only Assumption School students would be eligible to play in school-only tournaments or leagues. For example, when the 8th graders play Villa Walsh or Oratory Prep or the February Frenzy for the younger grades. Accordingly, Assumption School students must register for CYO to be eligible for these games. We understand that there has been some confusion. We hope that this plan is in the best interest of our students. It is imperative that you register your son or daughter through the School registration system by the September 29 and provide a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate (preferred) or Birth Certificate.

To register, please go online via our website, http://assumption-school.siplay.com/site/.   The link can also be found on the Assumption School website, under the “Athletics” tab.  You will then be prompted to create a login & password.  Once you’ve completed the registration process and paid in full, a confirmation receipt will be e-mailed to you immediately.

An annual sports physical form must be completed and on file with the nurses before your child can participate in any sports activity.
