Enrichment

Assumption School encourages students to explore many different experiences from athletics to extracurricular activities.  Whether your child is interested in art, STEM activities, or cooking classes, there is something for everyone.  Specific dates, times and details will be announced in the Weekly Word during the registration period prior to each session.  There is a fee associated with most activities.

Adventure Club:

Fun adventures 3-4 times per year for 5-8th grade students. Some adventures have been Spirit of NJ Dinner/Dancing Cruise on the Hudson, Ice skating in Central Park, Kalahari Water Park, The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, and Molders Fishing Preserve.

Drama Club for K-2:

Our very own Ms. Katie Adams – who directs the Winter and Spring musicals for Morristown High School – engages our younger students and helps them find their voices through her fun and interactive drama club.  Students meet once a week to learn and act out scenes from age appropriate plays and books, which have included The Polar Express, Peter Pan and Annie. A performance for parents and family is included at the end of each session, which typically run for 6 weeks.

Forensics:

Forensics is the study and practice of public speaking.  The Assumption Forensic Club is available to students in 5th – 8th grade. Participation in this fun club builds confidence and lifelong skills for speaking publicly in one-on-one situations and in front of large audiences.  The club holds several tryouts a year to select members who will participate in team competitions.   Competitions include the areas of dramatic reading and declamation.

Instrumental Music:

Instrumental Music lessons are offered after school in the Assumption music room through Clef Notes Music Instruction to enrich your child’s musical education.  There are Christmas and a spring recitals, which are open to parents and family members. Lessons are open to all students in Grades K-8.

Kid Chef:

Students in the 3rd-8th grades will join Mrs. Sopira and Mrs. Guglielmo as they share their culinary skills and recipes after school in the Assumption kitchen for cooking lessons.  Each session features hands on instruction and focuses on different seasonal and holiday themes.  Not only will they create delectable treats, but they will also end the class by enjoying tasting the fruits of their labor.

Scouting:

Many troops operate through Assumption School and Parish, meeting either after school or evenings at either Assumption School or the church. Troops are involved in many activites during the year including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, camp outs, cookie and popcorn sales, volunteer opportunities at local nursing homes, Pine Wood Derby races, etc.  Please view the following links for more information on Daisy, Brownie, Cub and Eagle Scout Troops.

Spring Play:

Each spring, Assumption School produces a spring play with auditions being held in January for students in the 4th-8th grades.  Rehearsals take place after school in the school gym.  Previous performances include the Wizard of Oz, the Music Man and Freaky Friday.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their talents.

Trans Options Learn to Ride a Bike:

Each year we offer a free learn to ride a bike clinic run by Trans Options to be held in the Assumption School parking lot.  This outdoor hands-on class for students ages 5-13, teaches the safe, easy and effective way to learn to ride on two wheels. Using the “balance first” method, parents help get their children rolling while the child does most of the work. Participants learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping and steering a bike, as well as proper helmet fit and adjustment.
